A Pinch of Time

“A Pinch of Time”

"26 X 40" Cyanotype,copper oxide,titanium powder,marigold ink, and salt.

As I age, I realize how little I know. Life is fun again because there is so much to learn!

The chaos or the peace.

If I am the noise, I will blame you.

If I am the silence, I will forgive my belief that you are the noise."

Grace

“Grace”

25" X 37" Handmade Korean Hanji Paper, multiple cyanotype exposures, borax and salt.

Yugen is an East-Asian aesthetic defined by mysterious grace. It is allusive rather than explicit. Here shapes twirl and disolve in a beautiful dance of change.

Confluence

“Confluence”

17" X 21" Handmade Japanese Kitakata Gampi Paper, cyanotype exposed on cardboard.

~ A marriage of opposites ~

In this picture lowly and noble papers harmonize. They merge without resistance, yet each manages to assert the beauty of its unique characteristics. I learn a lot from paper.

"Blue Lotus"

“Blue Lotus”

24.5" X 32.5" Framed ~ Cyanotype, pigment and gold gesso sandwiched in three layers of vellum

The Blue Lotus in Buddhism is a symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses. It is often depicted as a bud whose heart is unseen. The flower rises from the mud and opens to the sunlight.

Primal

“Primal”

24 kt gold leaf and pigment on vellum with Japanese tissue paper

I hesitate to name a picture like this. It is whatever delights you. The translucent, milky background holds gold, in flight, as it rises above a rich darkness. Birth, before birth, before death.

One

“One”

9" X 13" Framed ~ Handmade Mexican amate paper, cyanotype, enamel, Japanese tissue paper, gold dust, a leaf, and a twig. One in a vignette of three.

I read somewhere on the internet that art provides immunity to the coronavirus! Let's feed those antibodies. A big thank you to Barbara, Mary Ann, Sarah and Rich. I hope that the pieces you chose bring you many smiles and a legion of white blood cells.

Nonage

“Nonage”

13.5 x ”13.5 x ”13.5 x 10.5 Pigment print on vellum, backed in 24kt gold leaf

Early morning on a snowy spring day; blossoms, snow and dawn! An omen I hope of a flowering awareness of my own body's connection to the earth. I am optimistically awaiting snow in Buffalo.

A Nod to Sappho

“A Nod to Sappho”

24" X 32" Cyanotype, enamel, gouache, and glue, on handmade Mexican amate paper

Sappho was an Archaic Greek poet. Of her nine books of lyrics, written on papyrus, only one poem has survived in its entirety. The rest are fragments. My choice of paper here is a handmade Mexican amate, which, like papyrus, is imperfect and fragile.
